Stronghouse is seeking an experienced and proactive Associate General Counsel ("AGC") to manage all legal matters including compliance with state and local regulations, third-party vendor and partnership agreements, employment and joint-employment matters, employment litigation, and the general legal function of the Company. The AGC will work closely with and direct outside counsel on legal matters to ensure compliance and legal protection. This role is a great opportunity for a candidate that desires a fast-paced and high-growth position to utilize and enhance their legal and professional skillset in a high-visibility position. Candidates must be independent critical thinkers who can work in a challenging fast-paced environment and are capable of juggling a multitude of simultaneous projects.
This role will have exposure to employment matters to ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, manage employment litigation, and advise senior leadership on strategic workforce issues. The AGC will also manage complex contract drafting and provide comprehensive legal support across the organization in conjunction with outside counsel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and manage policies to create a best-in-class legal "ecosystem". Provide legal advice and support in the definition and development of corporate policies, procedures and programs.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including the HR, Development, Finance, and Operations teams, to understand the core business and strategic objectives and provide comprehensive legal support.
- Identify and mitigate employment-related risks through proactive policies and training.
- Ensure adherence to all labor laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Manage employment lawsuits, EEOC/state agency claims, and internal investigations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment agreements, severance packages, and contractor agreements.
- Draft, review, and assist in negotiation with third-party contracts and agreements, including vendor agreements, leases, customer contracts.
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, ideally Illinois.
- Minimum of 8 years practicing law with significant experience in one or more of construction, infrastructure, project finance or structured financing.
- Prior in-house counsel experience in a Private Equity backed organization preferred.
- Prior experience at a top-tier law firm providing sophisticated project finance or corporate transactional training, ideally followed by in-house leadership experience.
- Proven ability to collaborate internally and with outside legal counsel and serve as a strategic business partner to senior leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.
