Machine Shop Supervisor - Aerospace Manufacturing Firm
We are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to lead daily operations within our CNC machining department. This role is responsible for supervising personnel, managing production flow, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and driving operational efficiency in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and assign work to machining personnel to meet production schedules and delivery commitments
- Provide leadership, coaching, and training to ensure product quality and process efficiency
- Coordinate manpower and machine utilization to optimize workflow and eliminate waste
- Monitor daily production, prioritize jobs, and expedite work to meet internal customer needs
- Troubleshoot machining issues including machine stoppages, defects, and process inefficiencies
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, company procedures, and aerospace standards (AS9100/ISO)
- Maintain safety standards, 5S practices, housekeeping, and equipment maintenance protocols
- Collaborate with Program Managers and Production Coordinators to communicate job status and priorities
- Assist with quoting and estimating machining operations
- Support QA with root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Track and report on machine capacity, schedules, and shop performance metrics
- Participate in management meetings and continuous improvement initiatives
- Operate machine tools as needed to support production demands
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage scheduling, discipline, training, and development of machine shop personnel
- Review and approve daily timekeeping for accuracy and job costing accountability
- Enforce adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
- Ensure employees complete assignments, maintain clean work areas, and properly store tools/materials
- Monitor attendance and take corrective action when necessary
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring efforts
- Provide cross-coverage for other shop areas as needed
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience in CNC machining, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes and tight-tolerance machining
- Proficient in blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Experience with CNC machines, Fanuc controls, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
- Familiarity with CAM programming and CAD software
- Background in tooling, factory operations, and quality control processes
- Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in AS9100-certified environment
- Knowledge of multi-axis machining and complex aerospace components
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
