What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Fiber Optic Technician position at Stream Line Fiber LLC?
Fiber LLC is seeking experienced professionals for multiple positions for in house employees and subcontractors
- Aerial Fiber Cable Technicians/subs
- Underground Fiber Cable Technicians/subs
- Fiber/Coax Splicing Technicians/subs
- Fiber Drop Technicians/subs
All Subcontractors must have 2 yrs experience in :
- Underground Construction & Installation
- Operate heavy equipment, including directional drills, trenchers, plows, and backhoes, to install conduit and fiber optic cables.
- Perform directional boring for placing conduit beneath roads, driveways, sidewalks, rivers, and other obstacles without open trenching.
- Place handholes, vaults, and pedestals for fiber access points.
- Pull or blow fiber cable through newly installed or existing conduit systems.
- Ensure proper cable placement at required depth while avoiding damage to other utilities.
- Directional Drilling (Specialized)
- Read and interpret drilling plans and bore logs.
- Set up, operate, and maintain directional drill rigs and locating equipment.
- Monitor bore path to maintain proper depth, alignment, and separation from other utilities.
- Perform potholing/daylighting to safely expose utilities prior to drilling.
- Restore work areas and ensure site cleanliness after bore completion.
- Fiber Splicing & Termination
- Prepare, splice, and seal fiber optic cables inside enclosures and splice cases.
- Terminate fiber at panels, cabinets, and pedestals.
- Conduct mid-span access for adding new connections.
- Testing & Troubleshooting
- Use OTDR, power meters, and light sources to test and verify fiber quality.
- Perform loss/continuity testing on installed fiber.
- Diagnose and repair damage or service outages.
- Safety & Compliance
- Adhere to OSHA and local safety standards, including confined space and trench safety.
- Perform utility locates and follow “call before you dig” (811) procedures.
- Use PPE and safe work practices to prevent accidents.
- Mapping & Documentation
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction prints, and bore plans.
- Accurately document bore logs, splice details, and as-built records.
- Provide detailed daily production reports.
- Collaboration & Support
- Coordinate with aerial crews, splicing teams, and drop technicians.
- Work with supervisors, inspectors, and project managers to ensure job completion.
- Communicate effectively to maintain project timelines and quality.
Scope of Work
- Fiber and coax drop burial from terminal/pedestal to customer demarcation (DMARC)
- Route preparation and white-lining
- Hand trenching and vibratory plowing
- Driveway, sidewalk, and limited roadway bores
- 811 utility coordination and compliance
- Restoration to carrier and municipal standards
- Daily photo documentation and reporting
Qualifications Established company actively performing fiber and/or coax drop-bury work Crews available to mobilize immediately Knowledge of Wisconsin and Midwest burial depth and frost-line requirements Full compliance with 811 One-Call, OSHA, and local regulations Ability to meet carrier construction, quality, and documentation standards Willingness to submit daily documentation via approved reporting toolsOther RequirementsEquipment including vibratory plow (bore capability required), hand tools, and reliable vehicles, as well as all applicable insurances
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $300,000.00 - $999,999.00 per year
