About the Role
As an After School Program Staff member, you will mentor and supervise elementary and middle school students in school-based after-school programs throughout Central San Diego. You’ll help create a safe, positive, and engaging environment where students can learn, play, and grow.
This role is ideal for individuals passionate about education, child development, recreation, youth leadership, or making a meaningful impact in their community. Students pursuing careers in education, psychology, child development, or related fields are encouraged to apply.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise and engage groups of up to 20 TK–8th grade students in a safe, supportive environment
- Lead fun and enriching activities including games, STEAM, arts, sports, and academic support
- Foster teamwork, confidence, and social-emotional growth through positive behavior strategies
- Support students in developing important life skills such as communication, responsibility, and problem-solving
- Maintain organized, safe, and welcoming program spaces
- Collaborate effectively with fellow staff, school personnel, and families to support student success
What We’re Looking For
- At least 1 year of experience working with children (camp, tutoring, coaching, childcare, classroom, after-school, etc.)
- Positive, enthusiastic, and dependable personality
- Strong communication, leadership, and time-management skills
- Ability to engage and manage groups of elementary-age students using positive behavior strategies
- Interest or experience in enrichment areas such as STEAM, arts, PE, outdoor education, chess, LEGO®, origami, magic, music, or similar activities
- Must be 18 years or older
- Reliable transportation preferred
Schedule Options
Central San Diego (SDU):
On-call availability, 1–2 shifts per week
Monday–Friday between 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Typical shifts are 4–6 hours
Vista Opportunities Available:
Monday–Friday 6:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Monday–Friday 12:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Option to work one or both shifts
