Role Summary: The Health & Welfare Consultant will lead clients through complex operational changes and vendor implementations with a focus on accuracy, analysis, and an exceptional client experience. This is an opportunity for an experienced professional who enjoys helping plan sponsors successfully implement benefit solutions that meet their operational, financial, and compliance needs.
What You'll Do:
- Serve as a lead consultant and trusted advisor for a portfolio of health and welfare clients, helping guide them through health and welfare administrative implementations and operational challenges with third-party administrators.
- Scope client projects, develop project plans and timelines and proactively manage deliverables to ensure work is completed on time in accordance with client expectations.
- Provide ad hoc H&W administration support, and management of client third party vendors.
- Lead broker and vendor searches, brokerage fee analysis, new vendor implementations, and annual enrollment change projects.
- Develop and deliver client presentations, recommendations and implementation plans for plan sponsors and HR leaders.
- Review data files, resolve discrepancies, and ensure accurate eligibility and enrollment set-up.
- Translate plan documents and client requirements into eligibility rules, enrollment workflows, deductions, vendor feeds, and system configurations.
- Troubleshoot implementation issues with a strong focus on detail, follow-through, and client experience.
- Support participant communications, training, and adoption during benefit changes.
- Consult with HR leaders and other key stakeholders on H&W changes, audits, and compliance issues.
- Build strong client relationships, ensuring exceptional service and client satisfaction.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to help clients understand relevant H&W compliance considerations, including ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc.
- Establish communication and meeting cadences ensuring clients are informed and satisfied throughout the project.
- Contribute to business development efforts, client retention, and the continued growth of SBA’s Health and Welfare client portfolio.
- Mentor and share expertise with developing team members as appropriate.
- Explore and thoughtfully integrate AI-enabled process improvements where they add meaningful value and align with client needs and privacy requirements.
- Complete special internal projects, as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- At least 8 years of experience in health and welfare related work, required
- Strong working knowledge of fully insured and self-funded health and voluntary plan arrangements and their operational and compliance requirements.
- Working knowledge of key health and welfare compliance topics, including ERISA, ACA and HIPAA, required.
- Demonstrated ability to build credibility and trust with HR leaders and executive-level stakeholders, required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and presentation skills, required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, required.
- Skilled at documenting and highly detail oriented.
- Proven experience successfully working on multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time.
- A skilled team player, able to effectively coordinate work with others to move projects along and provide definition in a dynamic environment.
- High level of confidence in delivering recommendations and results to empower non-technical committees and clients to make informed decisions.
- Highly proficient in MS Suite, particularly MS Excel; quick to learn new software.
- College degree from accredited university, required.
- Certification or other designations for practical experience, preferred.
