Key Responsibilities:
· Develop and execute system- and component-level validation tests for a variety of trailer platforms.
· Design and document test methods, procedures, and plans to support R&D projects.
· Lead instrumentation and data acquisition setup, ensuring high data fidelity using load cells, displacement sensors, strain gauges, etc.
· Design, validate, and oversee the procurement and fabrication of test fixtures and equipment.
· Perform structural and mechanical analysis using hand calculations and FEA to validate test setups and design proposals.
· Coordinate external testing services such as durability testing, crash testing, and third-party validation.
· Identify and lead capital improvement projects aimed at increasing test capabilities and reducing lead times.
· Create and maintain engineering standard work documentation for future testing and design efforts.
· Support field testing, rework planning, and competitive benchmarking initiatives.
· Manage timelines for multiple concurrent projects, ensuring delivery on schedule and to specification.
· Lead or support R&D initiatives as assigned, collaborating across engineering disciplines.
Education & Experience Requirements:
· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical or structural engineering, ideally in trailer manufacturing, transportation equipment, or heavy-duty vehicles.
· Experience with mechanical testing or product validation.
Technical Knowledge & Skills:
· Solid understanding of structural mechanics, fatigue, and vibration principles.
· Experience with instrumentation and DAQ systems (e.g., NI, Dewesoft).
· Competent in data analysis and report generation using Excel, MATLAB, or similar tools.
· Basic to intermediate skills in FEA (e.g., linear static analysis, modal analysis).
· Proficiency in 3D CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks.
· Familiarity with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
· Basic understanding of fabrication techniques and ability to support hands-on test setup.
· Demonstrated problem-solving ability and initiative in completing technical tasks.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
· Work is conducted in a mix of test labs, shop floors, and outdoor environments.
· Must be comfortable working around large equipment and trailers.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and adhere to all safety guidelines.
· Occasional travel to test sites or supplier locations may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in the transportation or trailer manufacturing industry.
· Exposure to FMVSS, SAE, or DOT compliance standards.
· Hands-on experience with fabrication, welding, or test fixture assembly is a plus.
· Familiarity with accelerated life testing or reliability testing method
