What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fullstack Filmmaker position at Story Co?
Full-time · In-office
THE ROLE
We need people who can move fluidly through every stage of production: concept, pre-production, on-set, and post — and do it at a high level. For that, we’ve come up with the title “Fullstack Filmmaker”.
Some projects you'll own soup to nuts. Others you'll lead with a producer and bring in the right people to execute. Either way, you need to understand every part of the process deeply enough to direct it, do it yourself, or both.
This is not an entry-level role. We work fast, hold a high bar, and put people on projects that actually matter. If that sounds exciting rather than stressful, you're probably right for this.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Develop creative concepts from brief to execution
- Work with our in house producers on both the logistical and creative side: budgets, schedules, talent, locations
- Direct and shoot (experience with Sony FX cameras preferred)
- Edit your own work and/or direct an editor to do so
- Coordinate with VFX teams to integrate motion graphics and visual effects elements
- Run client calls, manage relationships, and represent Story Co in the room
- Juggle multiple projects simultaneously without dropping the ball on any of them
KEY ATTRIBUTES
- Proven experience directing, shooting, and editing
- Deep understanding of visual storytelling across formats and styles
- Highly iterative mindset. We refine until it's right, and need people who embrace that process
- Quick turnarounds without sacrificing quality
- Comfortable interfacing with clients whether through email, on set, or on calls
- Thrives with ownership of projects while also being able to work collaboratively with a team
- Knows when to bring in help and how to direct it effectively
- Strong communicator, strong collaborator, no ego
HOW WE WORK
We move fast and we work hard. Projects are highly collaborative, and the quality bar is something we're constantly trying to raise. You'll likely juggle multiple projects at various stages. The key to success here is strong communication and using our in house resources to figure out how to get the job done.
We're a small team, which means your effort and input actually matter!
OUR TAKE ON AI
We believe in real people doing real work. We don't believe in AI replacing human creativity, but we're not ignoring the world around us either. We're open to using AI as a tool in our pipeline where it genuinely helps — storyboarding, certain VFX elements, workflow support.
