Overview:
The Director of Construction will be responsible for construction on all Retail, Manufacturing, and Cultivation projects. This position directs the department, coaching and developing associates to elevate their performance. This role will integrate construction activities with other related departments, including Expansion, Marketing, Retail & Operations. The ideal candidate will have experience implementing process improvements within a construction function, including budgets, timelines, permitting, new standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring high quality service on behalf of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the completion of ground up, tenant improvements, ensuring construction meets both company standards and external building regulations.
- Confirm award to successful bidders for final approval by EVP of Operations.
- Develop and manage construction project budgets.
- Lead a Project Manager, managing, coaching, and overseeing their development.
- Be responsible for hiring, retaining, developing, and elevating associate performance to support the company’s growth strategies.
- Implementation of company Construction policies and making sure procedures are followed, working with the Executive Director on policy changes.
- Stay current on construction regulations and work collaboratively with consultants and the design team to acquire required permits.
- Work with Architects and Engineers to create plans needed to submit to local municipalities.
- Modify designs as necessary to meet local regulations.
- Stay abreast of construction trends, particularly including cost.
- Track the availability of labor and the cost of materials and their impact on store
- construction.
- Source and evaluate general contractors for each construction project through the
- established bidding process.
- Evaluate change orders for viability and accuracy.
- Oversee the effective use of project management software, excel to track and manage the status of all construction projects, from site selection through store opening.
- Coordinate Construction activities with other affected departments to ensure successful project completion.
- Coordinate and collaborate with external consultants and vendors.
Education & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management required.
- Minimum ten years of construction project management experience, preferably in a retail & commercial environment.
- Proficient in MS Project, MS Teams, Highly Proficient in MS Excel, Wurk, Monday, Procore.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work enthusiastically with constantly changing priorities.
- Ability to focus on process improvement; ability to find and describe flaws and inefficiencies in processes, and suggest clear, reasonable solutions.
- High level of professionalism and discretion.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, and basic knowledge of general business concepts.
- Maintain a high level of integrity, personal motivation, and sense of urgency.
- Must comply with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry.
