Title: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Controller
Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the oversight of the general ledger and for the accurate preparation of financial statements.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly financial statements.
- Run month-end reports and close each module (Inventory, Order Processing, etc).
- Analyze revenue and expenses to ensure proper matching of revenue and expense and to ensure that transactions are recorded accurately.
- Prepare journal entries as part of the month-end close process.
- Record payroll entry and ensure that employees are charged to the appropriate expense line and department.
- Prepare monthly financial metrics.
- Prepare account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain general ledger by adding new accounts, departments, sales codes, and update financial statements as needed.
- Calculate commissions as defined by the compensation plans. Run commission reports and review reports ensuring that orders are recorded to the appropriate sales code and that costs are recorded properly. Prepare commission reports and distribute them to salespeople.
- Maintain a fixed asset system. Determine which items should be capitalized and added to the fixed asset system, handle disposals and department transfers. Ensure that book and tax depreciation are calculated according to the established guidelines.
- Maintain petty cash.
- Assist Controller with year-end physical inventory.
- Assist Controller in implementing job costing.
- Special projects as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- 4-year college degree in Accounting.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced skill level of Microsoft Excel.
- Three years of public or business accounting experience.
