Are you an experienced construction estimator who thrives on winning work and delivering accurate, competitive bids? We're looking for a driven Estimator to join our growing team and play a critical role in the success of our asphalt paving and heavy civil construction projects.
In this position, you'll be responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for asphalt paving, milling, grading, roadway, parking lot, and site development projects while collaborating with operations, project management, and field teams to deliver winning proposals. What You'll Do
- Prepare accurate, detailed cost estimates for asphalt paving, milling, grading, concrete, aggregate, striping, drainage, and site development projects.
- Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to develop competitive proposals.
- Perform precise quantity takeoffs and develop labor, equipment, material, trucking, and subcontractor pricing.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assemble complete bid packages, cost summaries, and proposal documentation.
- Analyze production rates, project schedules, constructability, and potential project risks.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and site visits as needed.
- Partner with Project Managers, Operations, Engineering, and Field Teams throughout the estimating process.
- Maintain historical cost databases and estimating records to improve future bid accuracy.
- Support budgeting, value engineering initiatives, and change order pricing.
- Compare estimated costs to actual project performance to continuously improve estimating accuracy.
- Ensure estimates meet client specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify new bid opportunities while building strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
What We're Looking For
- 3 years of estimating experience in asphalt paving, heavy civil, roadway, or site development construction.
- Experience estimating municipal, DOT, commercial, and private paving projects is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of asphalt paving operations, grading, milling, earthwork, drainage, and underground utilities.
- Ability to confidently read and interpret civil engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Exceptional analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.
