Position Summary
The purpose of this position is to support Storm Lake Community School District's commitment to ensuring all students have access to a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. The bus driver provides safe, efficient, and reliable transportation while fostering a respectful and supportive atmosphere. This role contributes to positive relationships with students, families, and staff and supports the overall well-being of each student.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follows all traffic laws and school bus safety regulations
- Maintains appropriate student behavior; reports concerns to appropriate staff
- Keeps interior and exterior of assigned bus clean
- Conducts pre-trip inspections (fuel, fluids, mechanical condition); reports needed repairs
- Notifies appropriate personnel of mechanical failure, accidents, or delays
- Transports authorized students; discharges students at approved stops only
- Demonstrates responsible leadership on field trips and out-of-district trips
- Completes and submits required reports, including accident reports
- Enforces district policies regarding eating and smoking on the bus
- Assists young and/or disabled students entering and exiting the bus
- Checks bus after each route to ensure all students have exited and bus is secure
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Meets State and District health requirements
- Holds or is able to obtain a school bus driver's permit
- Demonstrates competence for assigned responsibilities
- Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board
