Summary:The Director of Risk Management oversees SAM's risk mitigation strategies, insurance portfolio, and claims processes. They identify, analyze, and manage insurable hazards, negotiate with brokers for cost-effective coverage (property, liability, cyber, etc.), and ensure compliance to protect assets and operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
This position will lead the Company’s efforts to develop, implement, and oversee the organization’s insurance program including but not limited to property, general liability, crime, cyber, flood, auto, casualty, product liability, and professional coverages.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate policies and limits, negotiating terms, premiums, and renewals with brokers and carriers to ensure effective and cost-effective coverage.
- Reviews and assesses risk management policies and protocols; recommends and implements solutions such as insurance, safety and security policies, business continuity plans, or recovery measures.
- Manage relationships with insurance brokers, underwriters, consultants, and other external partners.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to analyze business operations, projects, and contracts to ensure adequate risk transfer and insurance requirements are met.
- Oversee claims management process, including reporting, investigating, documenting and resolving claims related to property, auto, transportation, employee, product, and general liability, working closely with legal counsel as needed for litigation support.
- Conduct risk assessments, collecting and analyzing documentation, statistics, reports, and market trends, to identify financial, safety or security risks that SAM may face.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the risk management team and oversee the activities of the Risk/Safety Specialist to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Oversee administration and management of our customer protection plan, brokers, third party administrators, and other vendors and insurance carriers
- Establishes and manages company requirements for contracts and vendors and develops a system to maintain compliance with such requirements
- Work with other departments to implement action plans and training.
- Drafts and presents risk reports and proposals to executive leadership team.
- In office scheduling requirements are determined by your supervisor and are subject to change at any time.

Education and/or Experience Requirements: Minimum of 5-7 years previous risk management experience with a bachelor’s degree in risk management, finance or related field required. Previous experience in Storage Facility management a plus.
- Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification preferred.
- Experience working with insurance policies.
- Appropriately maintain confidential information.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, project and time management skills.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
Language Skills: Must be fluent in speaking and writing the English language.
Work Hours: In a typical week, this position requires a minimum of 40 hours with regular and predictable attendance. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
Work Environment: This work is usually performed indoors in an office environment with normal noise levels and no exposure to hazardous conditions. Employees in this position are required to reside in a state where SAM is registered to conduct business.
