What are the responsibilities and job description for the Theater & Audio-Visual Technician position at Stony Brook University?
Required Qualifications (as Evidenced By An Attached Resume)
Associate's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). In lieu of an Associate’s degree, two (2) years of directly related full-time experience or a combination of education and experience totaling two (2) years may be considered. One (1) year of directly related full-time experience in the field of audio visual and/or theatrical production.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional years (2 ) of directly related full-time experience in the field of audio visual and/or theatrical production. Experience training other technicians. Experience with stage electrics, theatrical lighting design, audio systems for events, video and projection equipment, or stage management.
Brief Description Of Duties
Incumbents will set up and operate audio-visual equipment including projectors, sound systems, video monitors, and theatrical lighting. In addition to providing assistance in the various meeting rooms and lecture halls, the audio-visual technicians will also support events in the Charles B. Wang Theater.
This is a part-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Evening And Weekend Work Will Be Required At Times.

- Assist Production Manager:
- Assist with execution of audio, video, or lighting systems for events (e.g. programming lights; creating lighting looks; mixing sound). At times, serve as lead technician and/or stage manager.
- Maintain advanced audio-visual and theatrical equipment:
- Focusing lights; upkeep and minor repairs.
- Training Support:
- Assist Production Manager in providing job specific training for student assistants.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
