Job Description
Job Title: Surgical Veterinary Technician
General Summary:
Able to assist veterinary surgeons performing a variety of surgical skills including anesthesiology, surgery, radiology, laboratory and sterilization procedures.

- Proper Sterile Techniques
- Wide range of soft tissue, orthopedic and neurological surgeries
- Radiology
- Venipuncture
- IV Catheter Placement
- IV Fluid usage
- Medical treatments
- Intubations
Injections
Administration of oral medications
- Calculate drug dosages
- Basic laboratory tests
- Medical record charting
- Legible handwriting
- Doctor communications
- Client education skills
- Fluent verbal and written communication skills/English
- Proficient at animal restraint
- Medical terminology
- Nursing
- Basic pharmacology
- Bandaging
- Medical equipment operation and maintenance
- Knowledge of control drugs, dosing and administering
- Surgical site preparation
- Develop and maintain a sterile surgical work area and site
- Preform anesthetic management of patient from induction, throughout procedure, through extubation and recovery
- Monitor patients under anesthesia using self and vital signs monitor which would include ecg, respiration, temperature, spo2 and blood pressure
- Ultrasonic dental scaling and polishing
- Digital dental radiography knowledge preferred, but not required

Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent; college degree desirable.
