What are the responsibilities and job description for the STEM & Maker Education Specialist position at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart?
Stone Ridge is seeking a STEM & Maker Education Specialist to begin in July 2026. This is an annual, year-round job.
The STEM & Maker Education Specialist is responsible for:
- growing teacher capacity around a maker mindset and developing interdisciplinary integrations to mature the STEM program across grades 5-12.
- managing and operating the divisional makerspaces.
- focusing on curriculum integration with maker-centered practices and engineering skills
- fostering a culture of innovation, design thinking, and hands-on learning.
- working collaboratively with faculty across disciplines to embed maker pedagogy and engineering design processes into core curriculum, while also providing direct instruction in STEM and maker-centered learning experiences.
- collaborates specifically with Science and Math teachers to develop interdisciplinary experiences according to School strategic priorities around STEM.
- acting as an academic leader and supporting to faculty and staff, including meeting with faculty and faculty teams to advance maker-centered learning and STEM integration capacity and identify opportunities for growth.
- maintaining a current understanding of best practices and pedagogies in girls' education and STEM education, maker-centered learning, design thinking.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support and facilitate the initiatives of the Educational Technology and Innovation department, the Division, and the School.

- Perform other duties as assigned
Essential skills and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in related field (STEM education, Engineering, Design, Educational Technology, or related area); graduate degree preferred
- Facility with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and learning management systems (LMS).
- Experience with maker tools, equipment, and technologies (3D printers, laser cutters, electronics, hand tools, digital fabrication tools, etc.)
- Experience with curriculum design, project-based learning, and makerspace and STEM pedagogical best practices
- 2 years of teaching experience required, preferably in STEM, engineering, or maker-centered learning
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective professional development and adult learning experiences
- Experience in a faculty support role within a school environment
- Excellent problem-solving and project-management skills
- Strong collaboration and oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
Valued but not required skills and experience:
- Experience managing a makerspace or innovation lab in an educational setting
- Background in engineering, design, or a STEM field
- Familiarity with design thinking and maker-centered learning frameworks and facilitation
- Experience with robotics, coding for physical computing (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.), or electronics
- Experience supporting student research in STEM, facilitating student participation STEM competitions or innovation challenges, or mentoring students in projects on advanced STEM topics.
