To be successful in this role, you must be detail oriented, able to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work efficiently and independently to meet crucial deadlines. All candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Typical work schedule is Monday thru Friday, 8am-5pm.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Controller supports the CFO in overseeing corporate accounting and the month-end close in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This role plays a critical leadership role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, improving processes, and developing the accounting team.
ACCOUNTING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the accounting operations of the company
- Ensure accounting treatment complies with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies
- Communicate routinely with Project Managers on a variety of job-related topics including bonding, insurance and contract agreements
- Participate in the formation and implementation of company financial plans
- Preparation of all monthly financial reports; WIP, Balance Sheet, P&L, Trail Balance, etc.
- Work with outside accounting/financial firms on monthly close-out procedures
- Coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring timely and accurate results
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and account reconciliation activities to maintain accurate financial records
- Provide reporting and budgeting as required by Senior Management.
- Manage company and project cash flow
- Supervise accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable functions.
- Work with project management staff ensuring proper compliance with accounting procedures including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates and reports monthly
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and maintain relationships with key partners
- Prepare special reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be a strong and organized leader with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also required. Specific requirements include:
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and/or finance
- 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in job cost accounting and financial reporting
- 2 to 4 years of Construction Management or General Contracting or Subcontractor industry experience with knowledge of POC accounting
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- CPA is desired, however not a requirement
- ASC 842 lease accounting experience desired, however not a requirement
