Position Title: Maintenance Tech
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah or Three Forks, Montana
Purpose and Scope of Position:
The Maintenance Tech is responsible for ensuring the timely and effective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of bakery/mill equipment and facilities. By attending to regular and ad-hoc maintenance tasks, this role ensures continuous bakery/mill operations, minimizing downtime, and supporting the delivery of high-quality baked goods.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Routine Maintenance: Perform regular checks and preventive maintenance on all bakery/mill machinery and equipment.
- Equipment Repair: Troubleshoot and repair malfunctioning equipment, ensuring minimal production disruption.
- Facility Maintenance: Address any issues related to the physical facility, including plumbing, electrical, and structural concerns.
- Tool Management: Organize, clean, and maintain all maintenance tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Record Maintenance: Document all maintenance activities, noting any significant issues or trends.
- Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety guidelines while performing maintenance duties to ensure a safe working environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the production team to identify potential equipment issues and schedule repairs.
- Parts Inventory: Assist the Maintenance Manager in maintaining the inventory of spare parts and equipment.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on the latest maintenance techniques and best practices relevant to bakery/mill operations.
- Vendor Communication: Assist in consulting with equipment suppliers and service technicians as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Effective problem-solving and critical thinking skills for identifying and fixing equipment issues quickly.
- Knowledge of automation systems if the bakery uses automated equipment.
- Understanding of basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- The ability to work under pressure from downtime in a bakery can lead to significant production loss.
- Understanding and effective application of safety regulations and operations standards
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with other team members and managers. Multilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- The ability to occasionally lift heavy equipment parts between 25-50 lbs. independently and with assistance; and lifting components could exceed 100 lbs. with the help of a team.
- Maintenance Tech will undergo on-the-job training in areas such as:
- General food safety, quality, and safety training.
- Equipment and Tool Usage
- Safety Protocols and Compliance
- Basic Troubleshooting Techniques
- Effectively independently with minimal supervision and work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new maintenance challenges and scenarios.
Experience and Education Requirements:

- For entry level - 0-2 years related experience in equipment maintenance, mechanical repair, and/or electrical systems through internships, apprenticeships, or relevant work experience, preferably in a food production setting.
- For mid-level – 2-5 years directly-related hands-on experience working with food production or similar machinery, and possibly some experience in bakery environments.
- For senior level – 5 years extensive experience in industrial maintenance, ideally within a bakery or food production environment, and experience overseeing and/or training less-experienced technicians.
- Must be 18 years of age to work around chemicals, noisy and hot equipment, and work afternoon and evening shifts, if applicable
- Must be fluent in English as a primary or secondary language to effectively communication with leadership and other team members
