What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Stockell Consulting?
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with background in industrial HVAC, steam, and water systems, particularly those involving boilers and condensing systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on knowledge of mechanical systems and proven experience preparing accurate and competitive take-offs and bids for industrial projects.
Location is onsite outside of Birmingham, AL (north/east).
Responsibilities:
• Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to prepare detailed cost estimates
• Perform material and labor take-offs for HVAC piping, steam systems, boilers, chillers, and related equipment
• Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and vendors during the estimating and preconstruction phases
• Ensure estimates align with client budgets, project timelines, and technical specifications
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options
• Maintain up-to-date cost databases and estimating tools
Qualifications:
• 10 or more years of experience in mechanical estimating, preferably in industrial HVAC and boiler systems
• Strong knowledge of piping systems, pressure vessels, ASME code, and mechanical equipment
• Proficiency with estimating software
• Solid understanding of blueprints, schematics, and construction documentation
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not required)
