What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Geologist position at STM Associates?
We are looking for a Senior Geologist that will support exploration activities, including drill planning and execution, core and RC logging, geologic mapping and interpretation, sampling programs, and QA/QC. This role works closely with an exploration team to deliver safe, accurate, and timely geological data and interpretations and will be based in Winnemucca (relocation required).
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and supervise RC, Sonic, and Core drilling programs; coordinate drill pad locations and logistics as needed
- Conduct drill rig inspections and field checks
- Log core and RC
- Manage sampling programs (soil/rock) and review assay results and QA/QC; report lab performance and sample issues
- Update and interpret geological models (e.g., Leapfrog) using lithology, geochemical, hyperspectral, and structural data
- Complete in-pit mapping and data analysis to support mine modeling and geotechnical evaluation
- Collect field data using handheld tools (e.g., XRF, magsus) as required
- Prepare routine reports
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences
- 10 years of exploration and production experience
- Proficiency with Leapfrog and Vulcan
- Working knowledge of geological databases (e.g., acQuire or MX Deposit preferred)
- Experience performing QA/QC
- Ability to map at surface and/or underground
