CONTROLLER
Stiffler McGraw is seeking an experienced controller to lead accounting and financial reporting functions within a dynamic engineering/architecture firm. This role will focus on delivering accurate, timely financial information, supporting project-based accounting, and ensuring compliance with state and federal tax and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- CPA preferred
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within an engineering, architecture, or professional services firm
- Corporate tax experience preferred
- Strong understanding of project accounting. Percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and WIP management
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong IT aptitude
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems (Deltek or similar a plus)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills necessary
- Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and meet deadlines
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Controller will be responsible for managing the company’s accounting operations and supporting overall financial management. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing accounting procedures, and providing timely financial information to company leadership.
Primary responsibilities include preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements, overseeing the monthly close process, maintaining the general ledger, and completing account reconciliations. The Controller will also manage project-based accounting functions, including job costing, work-in-progress reporting, and revenue recognition.
Additional duties include coordinating and/or preparing federal and state tax returns, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and industry-specific practices, maintaining internal controls and financial policies, and serving as the primary liaison to external auditors. The position will also oversee health insurance plans, supervise support staff, and prepare periodic financial reports for presentation to shareholders.
The position is full-time and includes a generous benefits package.
