Responsibilities / Duties
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environment policies, procedures, and requirements for the facility and laboratory equipment.
- Adhere to SOP’s instructions on laboratory biosecurity and cleanliness, and straw packaging.
- Ensure that straws are not exposed to undesired temperatures.
- Ensure proper labelling and identification of consumables, samples, and records.
- Ensure that all records, electronic and hand-written, are complete and accurate.
- Ensure that equipment used for straw packaging are maintained in proper working condition. Perform regular maintenance, calibration and minor troubleshooting as required.
- Ensure that all necessary supplies for straw packaging are available. Resupply working area and communicate ordering needs to laboratory management as needed.
- Organize hold and shipping (order) tanks according to tank availability, production level and logistics, expected pick-up dates, and quarantine requirements (if applicable).
- Verify/create tank maps and/or tank packing slips as required.
- Verify number of straws and reconcile with production records.
- Label/tab canes used for packaging.
- Package straws into goblets, racks or other containers according to requirements. Use automated packaging equipment if available/required.
- Verify and record any issues with straw quality including print quality, seal or plug defects, and inconsistent/incorrect fill volume.
- Inform laboratory management (or responsible party) of any count discrepancies and/or quality issues before final numbers are recorded on inventory allocation.
- Separate and store straws for quality control if required.
- Package shipping tanks and sign-off documentation. Archive signed documentation from picked-up tanks.
- Monitor liquid nitrogen level of handling, holding, and shipping tanks. Fill liquid nitrogen cylinders and tanks as required.
- Maintain workstations clean and organized. Clean equipment, countertops, cabinets and drawers according to routine specified by laboratory management. Remove trash and clean floors as required.
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks as determined by shift leaders or laboratory management.
- High school diploma. Technical diploma or Associates Degree in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or laboratory sciences related fields preferred.
- Able to communicate in an effective and professional way.
- Basic computer skills and proficient knowledge in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Able to work standing up most of the time and to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs
