Required Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience
Required Education:
Graduate of a state accredited school of nursing. Current Iowa license ACLS, TNCC, NRP and PALS certified or completion within six (6) months of hire.
Position Summary:
Directs the functions and activities in the acute, swing and hospitality units, implements policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff, and the public. Assumes the duties of the Emergency Department RN. Directs the emergency medical and trauma care for infants, children and adult emergency patients. Performs duties in any nursing capacity as needed.
Essential Function:
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
- Assist physician with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to emergency medical and trauma patient care.
- Assists attending physician and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning equipment.
- Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur.
- Ensures accurate maintenance of patient's medical record and that patient records are treated as confidential information per HIPAA guidelines.
- Demonstrates proficiency in performance standards and skills required of a House Supervisor.
- Demonstrated the ability to competently care for patients of all ages to include neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Must have knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patients in this age range, able to assess data and interpret appropriate information relating to their age-specific needs.
- Assist in performance reviews.
- Coordinate services rendered by nursing personnel with those rendered by personnel in other departments in providing patients' total needs.
- Supervise and accept responsibility for entire operation of hospital during absence of all administrative staff.
- Develops a comprehensive nursing care plan for patient and/or family according to the nursing process.
- Formulates appropriate and measurable goals in conjunction with patients to promote, maintain and restore health.
- Implements appropriate teaching plans.
- Responds to Trauma code calls.
- Organizes, directs, and coordinates function and activities of all patient care.
- Adjusts staffing to meet needs and to provide adequate coverage of unit.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Adheres to the policies and procedures regarding HIPAA Guidelines.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Satisfactorily qualifies for the position through an Iowa Criminal History/Dependent Adult Abuse check within the limits of applicable laws.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Hard Skill Requirement:
- Perform Advanced levels in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Typing a minimum of 50 wpm
- Technologically savvy

Working Conditions:
May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness). Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Performs emergency care. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Occasional pressure due to multiple call and inquiries. Requires judgment/actions which could result in death of patient.
