What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cabinet Painter position at Stewart Knowles Construction, Inc.?
ClearPath Construction
CABINET PAINTER
LOCATION - Mt. Juliet, TN
REPORTS TO - Production Lead
EMPLOYMENT TYPE - Full-Time
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We build high-end, fully custom cabinetry for homes where craftsmanship and precision matter. Every piece is built by hand — no shortcuts, no box cabinets, and no mass production. Our finishes are sprayed in-house, color-matched to spec, and inspected before they ever leave the shop.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Cabinet Painter owns the finish from start to final coat. You take cabinets, doors, drawer fronts, and built-ins from raw and assembled through sanding, prep, primer, paint or stain, and clear coat — delivering a flawless, durable, furniture-grade finish on every piece. This role demands a sharp eye, steady hand, and pride in producing finishes that hold up for decades.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Take cabinetry from raw through final coat — sanding, prep, priming, painting, staining, and clear coating.
• Sand all surfaces through proper grit progression; sand between coats for a glass-smooth finish.
• Fill nail holes, putty, and caulk seams; address grain raise, dents, and defects before finishing.
• Mix, tint, and color-match paints, stains, and clears to approved samples and spec sheets.
• Spray primer, paint, stain, lacquer, conversion varnish, and water-based finishes using HVLP and AAA spray equipment.
• Mask hardware locations, glass, and adjacent surfaces; protect finished pieces during handling and curing.
• Inspect every piece for runs, sags, fish-eyes, orange peel, dust nibs, and color variance — rework anything that isn't right.
• Maintain the spray booth, filters, guns, lines, and pumps in clean, ready-to-shoot condition.
• Coordinate with cabinet builders and the shop manager to keep finish schedules on track.
• Properly store, label, and dispose of solvents and finishing materials per safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe finish area.
QUALIFICATIONS
• 3 years of experience finishing custom cabinetry, fine furniture, or millwork required.
• Proficient with HVLP and/or AAA spray equipment and tuning guns for different products.
• Hands-on experience with high-end finishes — lacquer, conversion varnish, water-based topcoats, stains, and glazes.
• Strong understanding of surface prep, grit progression, and inter-coat sanding.
• Color-matching ability — can read a spec, mix to sample, and hit it consistently.
• Detail-oriented, takes pride in flawless finishes, and refuses to send out a piece that isn't right.
• Reliable, communicates clearly, and works well alongside builders and finishers in a fast-paced shop.
• Comfortable wearing a respirator and following finish-room safety protocols.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

• Competitive pay based on experience
• Paid holidays and time off
• Overtime opportunities
• Consistent, year-round work
