The Second Shift Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing manufacturing operations during the evening shift to ensure safety, quality, and productivity goals are consistently achieved. This role provides hands-on leadership to production teams, enforces company policies, and ensures smooth coordination with first shift management and support functions.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Safety
• Promote and enforce all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
• Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
• Ensure employees follow proper work practices, PPE usage, and equipment operation standards.
• Take immediate corrective action on unsafe conditions or behaviors.
Quality
• Ensure all products meet internal quality standards and customer specifications.
• Monitor workmanship, process controls, and inspection results throughout the shift.
• Address quality issues promptly by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Partner with Quality and Engineering teams to maintain continuous improvement.
Productivity & Operations
• Supervise day-to-day production activities to meet established output, efficiency, and labor goals.
• Manage staffing, job assignments, and shift transitions for optimal workflow.
• Monitor production metrics, downtime, scrap, and rework.
• Ensure adherence to production schedules and standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate material flow and equipment readiness for uninterrupted operations.
Leadership & Employee Management
• Lead, coach, and motivate production employees to maintain engagement and accountability.
• Conduct employee training, onboarding, and performance feedback.
• Address employee issues including attendance, performance, and disciplinary actions.
• Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment.
Communication & Reporting
• Communicate shift performance, issues, and priorities to the Plant Manager and first shift leadership.
• Complete production, safety, and quality reports accurately and on time.
• Participate in daily handoff meetings to ensure continuity across shifts.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (wood products or door manufacturing preferred).
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations, quality systems, and lean manufacturing principles.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage performance, and drive results.
• Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently during off-hours while maintaining close alignment with day shift leadership.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift materials as required in a manufacturing environment.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced production setting with machinery, noise, and material handling equipment.
Work Schedule
• Full-time, second shift: 4:00 PM - 12:30 AM
• Occasional overtime or schedule flexibility may be required to meet production demands.
