Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Surgery Scheduler to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner. This role requires strong communication skills, proficiency in medical terminology, and familiarity with various electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Surgery Scheduler will play a crucial role in facilitating patient care and supporting the surgical team.
Duties
- Schedule surgeries by coordinating with surgeons, patients, and other medical staff.
- Review patient documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to scheduling.
- Verify insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for surgical procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of scheduled surgeries, including patient information and procedure details.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding pre-operative instructions and scheduling changes.
- Utilize EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms for scheduling and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations while handling patient information.
- Assist with medical billing and coding tasks as needed, including CPT coding and ICD-10/ICD-9 coding.
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries and concerns promptly.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to develop care plans as needed.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance verification processes, and medical coding/billing practices.
- Proficiency in using EHR systems; experience with Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency; typing speed of at least 40 WPM is desirable.
- Excellent phone etiquette and communication skills for effective patient interaction.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
