What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Accountant position at StevenDouglas?
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with job costing, progress billing, and month-end close in a project-based environment. This individual will be highly detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable working cross-functionally with Project Managers and leadership to ensure accurate job profitability, timely billing, and compliance with GAAP standards in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain job cost structures, budgets, and cost codes in coordination with Project Management
- Track job costs, perform variance analysis, and support WIP reporting and cost-to-complete updates
- Lead progress billing, including preparation and submission of pay applications
- Manage accounts receivable, including collections, cash application, and customer follow-up
- Oversee lien waivers, COIs, and billing compliance documentation
- Support month-end close, reconciliations, and job cost/financial reporting
Qualifications
- 3 years of accounting experience in job cost, construction, manufacturing, or similar project-based industry
- Strong experience with progress (AIA/draw) billing (required)
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and financial reporting (required)
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations
- Proficiency in Excel and experience with ERP or job cost accounting systems
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
