Our client, a growing construction company, is looking for a Controller. The role partners closely with leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Direct the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
- Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and construction accounting requirements
- Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and oversee the close process
- Generate job cost reports and analyze project profitability
- Evaluate financial results and identify variances from budgets
- Oversee accounting functions across multiple entities
Project Accounting
- Manage job costing across labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
- Apply percentage-of-completion and completed-contract accounting methods
- Review and validate work-in-progress (WIP) schedules
- Monitor retainage, invoicing, and change orders
- Partner on forecasting project costs and analyzing margins
- Understand and manage AIA billing processes and contract structures
Cash Management
- Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions
- Oversee progress billing, collections, and lien waiver processes
- Track and manage cash flow and working capital needs
- Maintain relationships with banks and manage credit lines
Finance
- Lead the annual budgeting cycle and ongoing forecasting efforts
- Identify cost trends and recommend efficiency improvements
- Collaborate with project teams on financial planning
- Contribute to long-term financial strategy initiatives
Internal Controls
- Establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, labor laws, and industry standards
- Coordinate audits and external financial reviews
- Oversee insurance, bonding, and compliance documentation
Leadership
- Lead and develop accounting and finance team members
- Provide mentorship, training, and growth opportunities
- Define performance expectations and optimize workflows
- Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and efficiency
Systems
- Manage construction accounting systems and ERP platforms
- Enhance financial processes through automation and improvements
- Ensure accuracy and reliability of financial data
- Oversee system upgrades or implementations as needed
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (required)
- Professional certification such as CPA or CMA (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years in accounting, with construction industry experience strongly preferred
- At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity
- Expertise in job costing and WIP reporting
Salary : $130,000 - $160,000
