Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Technician
Position Summary
The Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Technician is responsible for assembling, inspecting, testing, and repairing printed circuit boards used in electronic devices and equipment. This role ensures high-quality workmanship through precise soldering, component installation, troubleshooting, and adherence to industry standards such as IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001.
Key Responsibilities
PCB Assembly & Fabrication
· Assemble through-hole and surface-mount (SMT) components onto PCB assemblies.
· Perform hand soldering, reflow, wave soldering, and rework operations as needed.
· Operate PCB manufacturing equipment such as pick-and-place, ovens, AOI, or X-ray inspection systems.
· Read and interpret PCB schematics, assembly drawings, and work instructions.
Inspection & Quality Control
· Conduct visual inspections using microscopes, magnifiers, or AOI systems.
· Verify assemblies meet IPC quality standards and internal specifications.
· Document defects and perform corrective actions or flag issues for engineering review.
· Maintain accurate records of production, quality data, and traceability.
Testing & Troubleshooting
· Perform electrical testing using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and test fixtures.
· Diagnose faults down to the component level and perform board-level repairs.
· Collaborate with engineering to resolve design or manufacturing issues.
Process Support
· Assist in process improvements, tooling development, and workflow optimization.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
· Follow ESD-safe handling procedures and industry safety guidelines.
· Assist in determining BOM’s and time estimates for new item quotes.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certificate or associate degree preferred.
· 1–3 years of experience in PCB assembly, electronics manufacturing, or related field.
· IPC certification (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721) is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
· Proficient in soldering, component identification, and PCB assembly techniques.
· Strong ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings.
· Familiar with electronic testing equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies).
· Strong attention to detail and ability to perform fine motor tasks.
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
· Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs as needed.
Work Environment
· Manufacturing or electronics production environment.
· Exposure to soldering equipment, chemicals, and ESD-controlled areas.
