PRN Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP/ST) – Hospital Consultations & Evaluations

Sterling Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced PRN Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP/ST) to provide in-person consultations and evaluations for inpatient stroke patients at St. Luke’s.

This opportunity is ideal for an SLP with acute-care, inpatient, neurological, or stroke rehabilitation experience who is looking for flexible PRN work in a hospital environment.

The SLP will primarily support patients who have experienced a stroke or other neurological conditions and require assessment of swallowing, communication, speech, language, and cognitive-communication abilities.

Position Details

• Position: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP/ST)
• Facility: St. Luke’s Sugar Land, TX
• Setting: Inpatient Hospital – In-Person
• Patient Population: Primarily stroke/neurological patients
• Schedule: PRN / Flexible
• Availability: Sunday–Saturday, based on hospital needs and clinician availability
• Employment Type: PRN / 1099 Contractor
• Compensation: Competitive per-visit compensation

Your Role

As a PRN Speech-Language Pathologist, you will provide hospital-based consultations and evaluations for inpatient stroke patients.

You will assess patients following physician or hospital referrals and identify impairments that may affect their ability to communicate, understand language, speak clearly, safely swallow, and perform cognitive-communication tasks.

Based on your clinical findings, you will provide recommendations and communicate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team regarding the patient's therapy needs and plan of care.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive SLP consultations and evaluations for inpatient patients
• Evaluate patients following stroke and other neurological conditions
• Assess speech and language abilities
• Evaluate expressive and receptive communication
• Assess cognitive-communication abilities, including attention, memory, orientation, problem-solving, and safety awareness
• Assess swallowing function and identify signs of dysphagia when clinically indicated
• Identify appropriate speech-language pathology needs and interventions
• Develop clinical recommendations based on evaluation findings
• Provide recommendations regarding treatment and follow-up services
• Communicate evaluation results and recommendations to physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary team
• Collaborate with PT, OT, nursing, physicians, and other hospital professionals
• Complete required clinical documentation accurately and within hospital timeframes
• Follow hospital policies, infection-control requirements, and patient-safety standards
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional standards of practice

What You Need

• Active and unrestricted Texas Speech-Language Pathologist license
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Inpatient hospital or acute-care experience strongly preferred
• Experience working with stroke and neurological patients preferred
• Experience evaluating dysphagia/swallowing disorders
• Knowledge of aphasia, dysarthria, cognitive-communication deficits, and other post-stroke communication disorders
• Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with an interdisciplinary hospital team
• Ability to work independently in an inpatient environment
• Reliable transportation
• Professional and patient-centered approach
