Project Manager- Heavy Civil/Underground Utilities

Sterling Infrastructure, Inc.
El Paso, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 4/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/6/2026
Application Instructions

Lead the Work. Understand the Dirt. Deliver the Results.

Texas Sterling Construction is looking for a Project Manager with deep field experience in underground utilities who understands that successful projects start in the field — not just behind a desk.

We are looking for someone who is willing to be in El Paso for a 2.5-3 year data center project with a potential of a more long-term position once the project is completed.

This role is ideal for someone who has grown up in heavy civil construction, knows how underground utility work actually gets built, and can confidently lead projects from pursuit through closeout. You’ll partner closely with and manage field crews, anticipate challenges before they become problems, and ensure projects stay on schedule, on budget, and built right.

If you know what it takes to install storm drain/sanitary sewer/waterlines, manage crews & schedule, coordinate with other contractors, and keep the big picture in focus — this is your kind of role.

Why Texas Sterling Construction?

Texas Sterling builds more than infrastructure — we build careers, strong teams, and projects that shape communities. Backed by Sterling Infrastructure, we combine the stability of a national company with the feel of a tight-knit team that knows how to get work done.

Our underground utility projects are complex, fast-moving, and high-impact — and we trust our leaders to take ownership, solve problems, and drive results.

The Ideal Candidate

    • Has spent significant time in the field and understands crew dynamics
    • Can walk a jobsite and immediately recognize risks or inefficiencies
    • Communicates well with both field teams and executives
    • Takes ownership and drives projects forward
    • Understands underground utility sequencing, productivity, and logistics
    • Respects the realities of field operations and leads accordingly
Position Description

What You'll Do

    • Lead underground utility project from start to finish
    • Serve as the key link between the field and office
    • Partner closely with Superintendents and crews to keep work moving safely and efficiently
    • Develop project plans, budgets, and schedules
    • Monitor production, costs, and progress in real time
    • Manage subcontractors, vendors, and client relationships
    • Review drawings, specifications, and contracts
    • Identify risk early and solve problems before they impact the job
    • Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
    • Support field teams with practical solutions based on real-world experience
    • Maintain accountability for project financial performance
Position Requirements

What We're Looking For

    • Strong background in underground utilities construction
    • Experience working as a Superintendent or in a heavy field leadership role
    • Ability to understand how work actually gets built — not just how it looks on paper
    • Experience managing budgets, schedules, and subcontractors
    • Strong leadership and communication skills
    • Ability to anticipate issues and proactively solve problems
    • Proficiency with construction software such as HCSS HeavyBid, P6, or similar preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred — equivalent field experience considered
