Position: Project Engineer
Duration: 12 months / plus extensions
Location: Waukegan, IL 60087 onsite
Pay Rate $40.00 - $55.00 per hour
I am looking for a hands-on Project Engineer / Facilities Engineer (HVAC & Utilities) in Waukegan, IL — and this is NOT your typical PM role.
In this role you will be walking systems across multiple buildings, identifying issues and scoping solutions, leading installs, retrofits and commissioning, work with steam, chilled water, AHUs and more.
This Project Engineer is for someone that owns the Utilities and HVAC infrastructure within the building site. You will be able to own real projects and see the impact onsite.
Qualifications
Demonstrated hands-on project experience with:
Ability to read and work with schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical/electrical drawings.
Solid communication skills for working with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

- Building utilities (steam, chilled water, hot water, glycol)
- HVAC systems, particularly AHUs and related components
- Utility/HVAC distribution systems within buildings
- Walk the site and identify what needs replacement
- Select appropriate vendors and equipment
- Manage multiple projects in parallel
Ability to read and work with schematics, P&IDs, and mechanical/electrical drawings.
Solid communication skills for working with vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications (nice To Have)
- Experience with controls / controls engineering (e.g., understanding of HVAC / control schematics, sequence of operations).
- Background in facilities, utilities, or pharmaceutical/industrial environments.
- Prior experience upgrading aging infrastructure across multiple buildings or sites.
