Title: EHS Engineer
Location: Henrico VA
Pay Rate: $80K-$90K plus full benefits
The EHS Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. This role helps create and maintain a safe workplace while promoting a culture of safety awareness and continuous improvement across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Review plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to verify that all necessary safety precautions have been incorporated.
- Conduct regular plant tours and inspections to identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with safety standards, and verify proper operation of fire and safety equipment.
- Determine requirements for safety clothing and devices; design, build, and/or oversee the installation of safety systems on machinery and equipment.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety training programs for employees, ensuring awareness of company policies, emergency response procedures, and relevant safety laws.
- Investigate incidents and industrial accidents, recommend corrective actions, and prepare comprehensive reports to minimize recurrence.
- Conduct air quality and industrial hygiene tests to detect harmful gases, vapors, and other hazardous conditions.
- Serve as an internal consultant on ergonomics, hazardous materials, fire safety, industrial hygiene, and chemical safety.
- Perform regular audits of business units and ensure compliance with EH&S regulations and internal standards.
- Interface with outside vendors, contractors, and regulatory agencies regarding workplace health and safety issues.
- Maintain and submit required safety documentation, including OSHA logs and workers’ compensation reports.
- Administer the return-to-work program and support incident management and corrective actions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 1 years of EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of EH&S regulations, codes, and standards.
- Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and implement effective corrective measures.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data entry systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and present to management.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret technical data.
Certifications (preferred):
- Emergency Medical Certification
- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Certification
