Medical Device Reconditioning Technician

Every device you recondition helps clinicians deliver reliable care. In this role, you’ll diagnose, repair, calibrate, and certify medical equipment so it operates safely and efficiently. You’ll balance independent ownership of work with tight-knit teamwork to meet customer orders and uncompromising quality standards.

Impact you’ll make

  • Diagnose and restore: Perform troubleshooting plus preventive and corrective maintenance on STERIS and other manufacturers’ equipment and components.
  • Repair and rebuild: Disassemble units; replace/repair defective parts; rewire, reassemble, and verify function of major components and sub‑assemblies.
  • Validate and certify: Adjust, calibrate, and certify equipment for use using standard and specialized test equipment, guided by schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Finish with pride: Repair electrical and hydraulic systems; refinish metal/plastic parts; wipe down, tape/mask, and prep for painting or polish.
  • Improve continuously: Meet published productivity targets by following work instructions, prints, schematics, and standard work; apply 5S and LEAN principles.
  • Champion safety: Maintain safe work areas, follow safety regulations and audits, wear required PPE, and hold yourself and teammates accountable.
  • Support the flow: Provide backup to material handling and shipping/receiving as needed to keep commitments moving.

Tools and techniques

  • Hand tools, torque wrenches, and diverse diagnostic/test instruments—with strong understanding of each tool’s purpose.
  • Documentation sources: prints, schematics, diagrams, technical manuals.

Work setting

Based onsite five days per week at our Indianapolis, IN location. Overtime, weekends, and flexible shifts may be required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years related experience (mechanical, electrical, electro‑mechanical, hydraulics, plumbing, HVAC, and/or automotive diagnosis/repair). An associate degree, relevant certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may count toward the technical experience requirement.
  • Customer‑oriented approach and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, with the ability to document repairs thoroughly; strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction, listen, learn, and collaborate in a team.
