RELATIONSHIPS
Chain of Command
STEP2 Primary Counselor reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor.
Employees Supervised
The Primary Counselor does not directly supervise employees at STEP2.
Inter-relationships
STEP2's Primary Counselor interacts with all STEP2 staff, collaborating directly with the Clinical Team to deliver services.
JOB SUMMARY
The STEP2 Primary Counselor position is part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team that provides treatment services to women with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder. This position provides a broad scope of addiction counseling and interventions, and engages in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual counseling, group counseling, documentation, treatment evaluation, discharge planning, and more, for substance use disorder treatment services driven by ASAM Criteria and DSM-5. The Primary Counselor will ensure all substance use disorder treatment services are delivered according to local, state, and federal laws and in compliance with contractual requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General duties include, though are not limited to: Primary Substance Use Counselor
- Complies with all federal and state laws pertaining to client confidentiality when interacting with persons and organizations outside the agency.
- Utilizes ASAM Criteria and DSM-5 to assess appropriate level of care, continued stay, and discharge.
- Develops appropriate individualized treatment plans based on needs and strengths identified during assessment, documenting treatment progress and interventions in a timely manner.
- Facilitates process, psycho-educational groups, individual counseling sessions, perform assessments.
- Maintains documentation in electronic health records and maintains contact with community agencies and legal entities that are involved in the client's recovery environment.
- Attends weekly Clinical Staff meetings to provide and manage information concerning program clients as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Follow policies and state law to create, maintain, and submit accurate records and documentation, including treatment goals and progress notes.
- Compliance with 42 CFR, HIPPA
- Assist with on-call duties as required by all clinical staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Training
- LADC preferred, and CADC accepted, with completion of a Bachelor's or Master's level program from an accredited college or university.
Experience
- A minimum of two (2) years' experience working in counseling in a related field.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Strength-based interventions and broad understanding of community resources.
- Understanding of emergency/crisis response techniques appropriate to the position.
- The laws and rights affecting consumers, including youth and other vulnerable populations.
- The basic understanding of operations of human services, and community-based organizations.
- Knowledge related to basic counseling techniques and familiarity with the disease concept of trauma informed delivery of services, addiction/alcoholism, and issues related to perinatal substance abuse.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding client confidentiality.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position will be located at the Mathewson Family Counseling Center, where the STEP2 administrative offices are located.
- This is a full-time salaried position based on experience.
- This position is eligible for medical benefits, paid time off, and a 403B.
