MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT

SUMMARY
The Maintenance Technician is a key member of the Operations Team responsible for supporting the upkeep, functionality, and safety of organizational assets. This role involves performing general maintenance tasks across multiple domains including automotive, plumbing, electrical, and IT. The technician will also assist with equipment handling, light cleaning, supply fulfillment, and vehicle servicing to ensure operational efficiency and safety compliance.

DUTIES
The following reflects essential functions for this job but does not restrict other tasks, which may be assigned:
• Perform general maintenance on vehicles, plumbing systems, and electrical fixtures.
• Move and transport heavy equipment such as printers, computers, and office furniture across multiple locations.
• Conduct routine safety checks and inspections of facilities and equipment.
• Restart and troubleshoot basic IT equipment (e.g., routers, computers, printers).
• Fulfill supply requests and maintain inventory of essential items.
• Perform light cleaning duties to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
• Coordinate vehicle servicing including oil changes, inspections, and scheduled maintenance.
• Collect and organize vehicle usage logs and maintenance records.
• Support building maintenance and minor repairs as needed.
• Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures.
TASKS
• Conduct regular inspections of facilities and vehicles.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workspaces.
• Ensure proper handling and storage of equipment and supplies.
• Communicate safety protocols and maintenance updates to staff.
• Assist with vendor coordination for specialized repairs or services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• BA in facility management, business, information management
• 2-3 years in related positions
• Certified Facility Manager (CFM) credential, or equivalent
• Experience planning and maintaining facility budgets
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Professional leadership experience
• Contract handling experience
• Strong attention to detail
• Basic understanding of accounting and finance principles
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
Work with people experiencing homelessness whether on the streets, in shelters or other places of habitation or services, may present inherent challenges and difficulties such as: exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, individuals who may have poor hygiene or unclean homes due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty. Additionally, in working with our members, employees may encounter instances of profanity, sexually explicit or derogatory language, or verbal or physical expressions of anger and trauma. Very rarely do these situations ever escalate to physical contact, and negative or derogatory communication patterns can often be negotiated successfully. All direct care staff are provided adequate training to develop skills to deescalate crisis situations that may arise and Step Up has established procedural safeguards for all employees to mitigate (but not eliminate) these inherent risks of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry required.
