Position Summary

StemWave is developing an advanced electromechanical medical device system and is seeking a highly hands-on Medical Device Test Technician Lead to take ownership of system verification, high-voltage testing, and manufacturing readiness.

This role is embedded directly within the engineering team and will play a central role in transitioning the product from prototype to manufacturable product. Initially, the position will focus on system assembly, debugging, and verification testing. As the design stabilizes, the role will evolve into developing build processes, supporting pilot production, and leading a small team of assembly technicians.

This is not a repetitive production role. This individual will help define how the product is built, tested, and released. You will work alongside engineers and directly influence the final product design, test methods, and manufacturing process. This role will become the technical owner of system builds and testing, and will play a key part in transitioning the product into manufacturing.

What You'll Do

System Assembly & Integration

  • Lead assembly of electromechanical systems, sub-assemblies, and cable assemblies for low-volume development builds
  • Support configuration tracking and product traceability
  • Work directly with engineers to debug integration and interface issues
  • Maintain organized lab and build areas consistent with GMP practices

Verification & High-Voltage Testing

  • Execute functional, performance, and electrical safety testing, including high-voltage testing
  • Set up and operate laboratory equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, measurement instrumentation, and custom test benches
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and system-level failures and identify root cause
  • Document test protocols and results and generate summary reports
  • Use graphs and schematics to illustrate system operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations
  • Maintain and calibrate test fixtures and equipment

Process & Manufacturing Readiness

  • Develop and refine assembly procedures, routings, and work instructions
  • Design, build, and improve build fixtures and test setups
  • Identify design-for-assembly and design-for-manufacturing improvements
  • Support verification and validation builds and structured data collection
  • Assist with process qualification and pilot production activities

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

  • Train and lead 2–3 assembly technicians during pilot production
  • Act as the primary bridge between Engineering, Quality, and Production
  • Recommend improvements to product build-ability, testing efficiency, and workflow
  • Interface with vendors and contract manufacturers when needed

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years hands-on experience with electromechanical hardware
  • Understanding of core manufacturing processes (molding, machining, forming, stamping, etc.)
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and electrical test equipment
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings
  • Experience supporting prototype or development builds
  • Comfortable working directly with energized equipment, including high voltage, under controlled procedures
  • Strong documentation and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical device industry experience
  • Experience supporting verification and validation testing
  • Familiarity with regulated environments (GMP / ISO 13485)
  • Experience writing or executing test procedures
  • Fixture building, harnessing, or cable assembly experience
  • Exposure to pilot production or NPI environments
  • 3D printing or basic CAD experience
