Position Title: Controller
Reports to: CFO
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Type: Exempt
Summary: The Controller is responsible for the oversight of accounting and the accounts payable team, inventory management, and the continued development and execution of the point of sale (POS) and general ledger systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.
- Accounting
- Prepare and compile:
- Financial statements for Stein Garden Centers monthly
- Quarterly Stein Family Partnership financial statements
- Documentation for auditors for annual review and tax return support
- Quarterly tax estimates for Stein Garden Centers and related partnerships
- Monthly bank package preparation including borrowing base certificate, covenant compliance, and supporting narrative
- Annual operating budget
- Monthly bank reconciliations
- Monitor online banking and cash management transactions, cash flow reporting; collaborate with bank treasury functions including change order issues
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Perform specific financial project analyses as directed by the CFO
- Collaborate with the CFO, develop and monitor key financial metrics
- Manage and oversee fixed asset accounting – book and tax
- Accounts Payable/Leadership
- Supervise and develop accounts payable team to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments to vendors and service providers
- Ensure check runs and EFT’s are processed timely aligned with support documentation
- Oversee certificate of insurances for all vendors and service providers
- Inventory Management/Leadership
- Provide direction and development of the Inventory Analyst to ensure accurate and timely inventory valuation and processes
- Oversee the cycle count inventory processes at all locations and annual physical inventories as needed including year-round training of inventory associates
- Freight and inventory reserve allocations
- Data Analysis
- Analyze business transactions and processes as directed for business objectives
- Work with Celerant personnel to resolve POS issues and software bugs
- Store Location Support
- Assist stores with cash deposits, reconciliations, change order requests and other financial transactions
- Research and trouble shoot issues with receipts and duplicate credit card charges
- Tax exempt customers
- Ensure we have documentation on file to support tax exempt transactions
Employment Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and minimum of 5 years of corporate business experience
- Excellent computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including PowerPivot), Experience with MicroStrategy and Microsoft Dynamics GP a plus
- Must possess skills/experience in information technology and data management
- Must possess the ability to interact professionally with many levels within the organization Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently
- Strong logic, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
