The Network Administrator maintains, monitors, and supports the organization’s network infrastructure to ensure secure, reliable connectivity across all SMMC facilities. This role manages servers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems, and core network services. The Network Administrator provides advanced technical expertise, leads network projects, resolves complex issues, and upholds security and compliance standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Monitors network performance, uptime, and traffic to ensure stable connectivity for all departments.
  • Configures PCs and workstations for end users, ensuring proper setup, security, and functionality.
  • Installs and configures operating system software, clinical applications, and required updates.
  • Installs and configures peripheral devices including printers, scanners, monitors, and specialty equipment.
  • Diagnoses and resolves software, hardware, and connectivity issues for staff across all departments.
  • Maintains the operation of computers and related equipment to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Provides training and guidance to staff on software applications, basic troubleshooting, and secure system use.
  • Perform and verify system backup operations to protect data integrity and support recovery processes.
  • Monitor, detect, and mitigate malware threats using approved security tools and protocols.
  • Installs and configures phones, and other user devices as part of workstation setup
  • Configures and maintains voicemails system, phone extension, and related network-connected telephony.
  • Supports and maintains network infrastructure including cabling, switches, access points, and connectivity pathways.
  • Evaluates and recommends upgrades, patches, new applications, and equipment to improve performance and security.
  • Assumes PACS administrator responsibilities including system monitoring, user support and coordination with Radiology.
  • Performs updates, patches, backups, and hardware maintenance on servers, switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Responds to escalated help desk tickets involving connectivity, access, and system performance.
  • Implement firewall rules, access controls, and security protocols to protect organizational data.
  • Manages hospital-wide Wi-Fi systems, ensuring coverage reliability, and secure access.
  • Supports physical and virtual servers, including performance turning storage allocation, and backup verification.
  • Participates in disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation to ensure continuity.
  • Coordinates with vendors for hardware procurement, software support, and specialized network services.
  • Ensures network operations align with HIPAA, security standards, and organizational policies.
  • Leads or supports network upgrades, expansions, and new system implementations.
  • Oversees user account provisioning, role-based access, and periodic access audits.
  • Partners with the information security officer to monitor threats and respond to incidents.
  • Participates in on-call coverage for critical network issues outside normal business hours.
  • Manage replacement cycles for network hardware and related systems.
  • Contributes to IT policies, procedures, and standards for network operations.

Education And/or Experience

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of network or system administration experience; healthcare experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and customer service abilities.
