We are looking for an intern to be a part of our Materials Management Team for a temporary, but necessary and exciting position!
Requirements
Position Summary The Supply Services Clerk Intern provides entry-level support to the Supply Chain department by assisting with receiving, stocking, inventory organization, and basic distribution tasks. This temporary internship is designed for a high school student (minimum age 16) interested in learning how hospital supply operations support patient care.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Assist with receiving deliveries — help check in shipments, unpack boxes, and stage items for inspection.
Stock shelves and supply rooms — place items in correct locations and maintain organization.
Prepare supply bins and carts under supervision.
Deliver supplies to clinical and non-clinical departments as directed.
Rotate stock to ensure older items are used first and expired items are removed.
Assist with inventory counts including cycle counts and restocking.
Maintain clean and orderly storage areas following safety and infection-control guidelines.
Provide basic customer service to staff picking up supplies or requesting assistance.

Required Skills And Abilities
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to follow instructions and ask questions when unsure.
- Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 25–40 lbs. with supervision.
- Comfortable walking and standing for extended periods.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Currently enrolled in high school.
- Minimum age 16 (per Idaho labor requirements for hospital work).
- No prior experience required.
- Interest in healthcare, logistics, or operations preferred.
- Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of Steele Memorial Medical Center.
- Follows the requirements and expectations for all employees as outlined within the Employee Handbook, Compliance Program, SMMC Policies & Procedures, and individual Job Description(s).
- Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs. Use appropriate Safety and Infection Control measures.
- Confidentiality of all data, including patient, employee, and operations data.
- Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

- Comply with all federal and state regulatory standards applicable to employee’s department and job function.

- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
