Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Volunteer Treasurer to join our team. This vital role involves overseeing the museum’s financial health, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and maintaining compliance with relevant non profit accounting standards. The Volunteer Treasurer will play a key part in guiding financial strategy, managing budgets, and supporting the organization’s mission through sound financial stewardship. This is a 100% VOLUNTEER position, there will be no monetary compensation.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and oversee the organization’s financial records using accounting QuickBooks.
- Prepare and present regular financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow analyses.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Conduct account reconciliation activities, including general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable management, and bank statement reviews.
- Manage cash flow, budgeting processes, and forecasting to support strategic planning efforts.
- Oversee regulatory reporting requirements related to nonprofit or governmental accounting standards.
- Collaborate with board members and staff to develop financial policies and procedures that promote transparency and accountability.
Experience
- Proven experience in accounting roles within nonprofit organizations preferred.
- Strong knowledge of financial concepts such as debits & credits, double-entry bookkeeping, account analysis, and account reconciliation.
- Familiarity with financial software including QuickBooks and Paypal.
- Experience working with nonprofit accounting guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear financial reports and communicate complex financial information effectively.
- Knowledge of governmental or nonprofit-specific financial management practices is highly desirable.
