Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to support local transportation agencies and oversee projects involving Motor Fuel Tax (MFT), Township Bridge Program (TBP), federal, and other special funds. The role serves as a primary agent for carrying out state transportation responsibilities with local agencies and ensures compliance with applicable state and federal requirements.

Essential Functions

• Recommend approval of local agencies’ proposals for expenditure of MFT, TBP, federal, and other special funds.
• Recommend approval of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) for local agency construction projects.
• Serve as the primary agent responsible for carrying out state transportation responsibilities with local agencies.
• Ensure proper control and expenditure of MFT, TBP, federal, and other special funds.
• Maintain technical and professional competency in highway functional areas from project inception through closeout.
• Ensure local agency compliance with state and federal guidelines.
• Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules and promote fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) in Illinois.
• Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the IDOT Bureau of Local Roads and/or an Illinois County Highway Department.
• Supervisory experience.

For candidates who prefer to commute to Springfield, lodging in Springfield during the workweek may be considered for the right candidate. Reimbursement for other commute-related expenses is not available.

Compensation & Benefits

• $50–$70/hour, depending on experience
