A well-established California law firm is seeking a Municipal Attorney to join its growing public law practice in Los Angeles. This role offers the opportunity to serve as trusted counsel to municipalities, public agencies, and special districts on a broad range of legal matters impacting local government operations.
The ideal candidate will have experience advising public entities and a strong understanding of California municipal law, public governance, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to cities, counties, special districts, and other public agencies.
- Advise on compliance with California public agency laws, including the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and conflict-of-interest regulations.
- Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, contracts, policies, and other municipal documents.
- Attend and advise city council, board, commission, and committee meetings.
- Counsel public entity clients on governance, land use, public contracting, ethics, and administrative matters.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, opinions, and other legal analyses.
- Assist with risk management, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution matters.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the California Bar.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in municipal law, public agency representation, government law, or a related practice area.
- Familiarity with California local government statutes and regulations.
- Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage client relationships and work directly with elected officials, agency leadership, and staff.
Preferred Experience
- Brown Act and Public Records Act compliance.
- Land use and zoning matters.
- Public contracting and procurement.
- CEQA and environmental law issues.
- Code enforcement and administrative proceedings.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Full-time, hybrid
- Salary range: $145,000-$185,000 annually performance bonuses
