What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Technician position at Statewide Equipment?
About the role
Statewide Equipment is an authorized dealer for LiuGong, Kioti, Dynapac, and Topcon, serving contractors, farmers, municipalities, and rental customers across southern Utah. We're looking for a hands-on heavy equipment mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain the machines our customers depend on — excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, compact tractors, compaction equipment, and telehandlers.
This is a shop-based role with field service work as needed. You'll work directly with our service and parts team and report to the Service Manager.
What you'll do
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, and undercarriage on construction and agricultural equipment
- Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDI) on new units before customer delivery
- Complete scheduled maintenance and service intervals on customer and rental fleet machines
- Troubleshoot using OEM diagnostic software, schematics, and service manuals
- Document every repair completely — labor narrative, parts used, photos, and cause/correction detail. Warranty work requires full documentation before the job closes.
- Communicate findings and recommended repairs clearly so the service writer can quote the customer accurately
- Keep the shop, tools, and service bays clean, organized, and safe
- Occasional field service calls to customer job sites
What you need
- 3 years of hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment, diesel trucks, or agricultural machinery
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting — able to read a schematic and follow a circuit
- Own set of hand tools (Statewide provides specialty tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment)
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on your feet, and work outdoors in varying conditions
- Willingness to document work thoroughly — this is not optional and directly affects whether we get paid on warranty claims
- Reliable attendance and the ability to work independently without being managed hour to hour
Nice to have
- Experience with working on a variety of heavy equipment
- Prior dealership service department experience
- CDL Class A or B
- Welding and fabrication skills
- Air conditioning (EPA 609) certification
Pay: $26.09 - $31.42 per hour
