What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatics Management Coordinator position at State University of New York Cortland?
The aquatics management coordinator will perform assistant coaching and teaching duties as well as assist with the management and oversight of all physical space and personnel management in the Park Center Holsten Pool. When available, and, if needed, the coordinator will assist with Student Life Center (SLC) Pool coverage. Position works days and is required to work some evenings and weekends depending on staff coverage. This is an 11-month, full-time position and is in obligation from June 16 through May 15 of each year.
Salary Range: $52,700 depending on experience
Major Responsibilities
Coaching, Holsten Pool Facility Management and Aquatics Coordination
Assistant Coach Duties
Collaborate with the Head Coach, Swimming and Diving, to assist with coaching duties during the active season.
oAssist in planning and conducting daily practices for swimming and/or diving teams.
oProvide individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes to enhance performance and technique. Assist with developing practice plans.
oWork the duration of the sport obligation by instructing student athlete(s) in physical health (conditioning & weight training), individual/team concepts, and safety.
oSupport the Head Coach in developing training schedules, conditioning programs, and competition strategies.
Oversee and maintain all physical spaces and equipment in the Park Center Holsten Pool.
Assist with overseeing the Holsten Pool budget, including purchases, equipment and pool
Teaching and Instruction
Teach aquatics, lifeguarding or relevant courses, up to 6 credits per semester.
Maintain office hours as outlined in the SUNY Cortland Handbook, 220.02.
Develop and update course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
Assess student learning and assign grades in a timely manner.
Maintain academic rigor and uphold course learning outcomes.
Incorporate inclusive and accessible teaching practices.
Refer students to appropriate campus resources when needed.
Foster a respectful, inclusive, and safe learning environment.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
Serve on Athletics and Physical Education departmental committees as applicable to role.
Participate in curriculum development and accreditation and program assessment as needed.
Maintain accurate academic and student records.
Use learning management systems and institutional technology such as BrightSpace effectively.
Communicate professionally with students, colleagues, and administrators.
Compliance and Ethical Responsibilities
Uphold academic integrity and ethical standards.
Comply with FERPA, Title IX, ADA, applicable regulations and laws and institutional policies and procedures.
Complete all university mandated training(s).
Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree; CPR/First Aid/AED Professional Rescuer certification or must acquire the certification within 120 days of hire; Cortland County approved Lifeguard certification or must acquire the certification within 120 days of hire; Lifeguard Instructor certification or must acquire the certification within 120 days of hire; CPR/First Aid/AED Professional Rescuer instructor certification or must acquire the certification within 120 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management or related field; Experience supervising student employees; Work experience in a collegiate recreation program with emphasis on facility management and aquatics; Water Safety Instructor certification.
