Position: Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Monday-Friday 8-5 p.m. Position requires on-call periods including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during legislative session.

Hiring Range: $57,614 - $93,138

Salary Grade: A-22

Organization Overview:

The State Preservation Board (SPB) was established for the purpose of preserving, maintaining, and restoring theState Capitol and the 1857 General Land Office, which houses the Capitol Visitors Center. Since that time, Agency operations have expanded to include care of the Governor's Mansion, operating the Bullock Texas State History Museum, Texas State Cemetery, Capitol Mall and three Capitol Complex legislative office buildings. Position Summary: The Electronics Technician IV reports to the Facilities Manager and provides advanced (senior-level) fire sprinkler, related systems, and technical support work to the Facilities management team. Effectively transmits, receives, and promptly relays and coordinates information concerning facilities work orders, maintenance issues and internal and external customer requests, including from and between building occupants and Facilities teams using radio, multi-line telephone systems, Outlook and in-person. Work involves providing technical, oversight and performance of the maintenance, testing and alterations of fire Sprinkler, fire suppression and related systems. Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May assist in coordination of repairs of fire sprinkler systems work as authorized by the Facilities Manager. Works with Facilities team and other departments as needed. Performs all other duties as assigned. *Must be able to work with agency's 365 day-per-year schedule and may include weekends, evenings and holidays, including working on short notice.

· Performs skilled maintenance, repair and renovation work on fire sprinkler, fire pump, and related systems in accordance with the regulations of the National Fire Protection.

· Maintains fire suppression systems and fire extinguishers.

· Reviews Fire Sprinkler Submittals.

· Lead Commissioning Agent for new Fire Sprinkler systems, upgrades, repair and modifications; familiar with Life Safety Codes.

· Effectively transmits, receives, and promptly relays and coordinates information concerning facilities work orders, maintenance issues and internal and external customer requests, including from and between building occupants and Facilities teams using radio, multi-line telephone systems, Outlook and in person

· Schedules inspections for sprinkler systems, fire panels, fire suppression panels, and fire extinguishers.

· Troubleshoots and inspects fire sprinkler system, fire pumps and related systems.

· Conducts inspections for fire sprinkler systems, fire suppression panels, and fire extinguishers.

· Issues hot work permits.

· Analyzes and assists in defining agency disaster recovery responsibilities and procedures.

· Determines operational, technical, and support requirements for the location, installation, operation, and maintenance of fire sprinkler, fire pumps, and related systems.

· Coordinates and monitors the work of contractor staff for quality and compliance.

· Operates a motor vehicle in order to perform essential functions.

· Performs data entry and retrieval.

· May train or supervise the work of others.

· Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

General Qualifications and Requirements:

· Graduation from high school or completion of GED.

· Four (4) years’ of fire controls and sprinkler inspection experience.

· Valid and current State of Texas Class “C” Driver License.

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements:

· Experience reviewing and implementing fire related code compliance preferred.

· Experience monitoring fire systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Fire Prevention Systems Knowledge – Knowledge of fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and related systems and tools, and procedures for troubleshooting and maintaining these systems. Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the National Fire Protection Association and National Electric Code. Knowledge of fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and related systems. Knowledge of the techniques used in the design of automated systems.

· Inspection Knowledge - Knowledge of proper inspection and tagging of fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and related systems. Knowledge of proper inspection and tagging of fire extinguishers, fire sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and related systems.

· Regulatory Knowledge -Working knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn State Preservation Board State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Remains abreast and complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations, standards and emergency procedures including applicable OSHA, Agency, local, state, and federal security and safety rules, regulations, and established industry safety and security techniques and standards.

· Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.

· Communication Skills – Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional communications to a variety of audiences and individuals; to follow instructions; listen effectively, and provide concise information.

· Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) – Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

· Travel/Schedule – Availability for after-hour and weekend work is required.

· Physical Abilities - Ability to stand and walk for extended hours, up to 8 hours per day.

- Hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity;

- Ability to bend, lift, reach, and work on ladders;

- Ability to speak, hear, and exercise visual acuity;

- Ability to transfer weights of 50 pounds;

- Driving requirements: Occasional.
