GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is committed to providing a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system for the State of Wyoming. We now seek a full-time Structural Detailer located in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Responsible for the detailing of structural drawings of bridges and other highway-related structures that enhance public safety and improve the state transportation system.
Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
- With some direction, produces accurate structural details for steel and concrete bridges and other highway-related structures
- Using computer-aided drafting software creates accurate and complete structural details by referencing engineering computations, utilizing engineering theory, reviewing project-specific data, and following proper detailing procedures and office standards
- Obtains records and information for use in working drawings
- Verifies and makes corrections and additions to structural details
- Calculates estimated quantities of materials required for contract bidding, construction, and project costs
- Communicate with designers to ensure structural drawings are in compliance with engineering computations
- Recommends minor adjustments in design to achieve simplicity and contractibility
- Utilizes trigonometry, algebra, and geometry to calculate reinforcing steel lengths and laps, girder piece lengths, cross-frame lengths, gusset plate dimensions, etc.
- Participates in the review of drafting standards
- Participates in technician meetings to review detailing standards
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of the Bridge Program and industry drafting standards
- Knowledge of drafting principles, practices, standards, and office policies that relate to structural detailing
- Knowledge and understanding of the practical applications of algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
- Skill in the use of computer-aided design and drafting software (Microstation and AudoCadd), word processing (Word), and spreadsheet (Excel) computer applications
- Ability to produce clean, legible, and organized work
- Ability to give attention to details and work under pressure
- Ability to work well with others

- One year of service to WYDOT must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.
- Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.
- Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
- If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
