DATCP currently has an opening for a Regulatory Specialist position within the Division of Trade and Consumer Protection, Bureau of Weights & Measures.
This position is located at the Prairie Oaks State Office Building situated on Madison’s southeast side and a beautifully wooded and scenic hilltop venue. Our employees enjoy low-cost parking at the facility and are only minutes away from the Beltline Highway, Interstate 90 and Highway 51 for quick access to local restaurants, retail and service locations.
Remote Work Option: This position may have the ability to work remotely up to 6 days per 2-week pay period after the training period! An approved remote work agreement is required before an employee may work remotely. Approval of the employee’s remote work agreement and work schedule will vary based on the operational needs of the Division. All DATCP employees who work remotely are required to live in Wisconsin.

Position Summary
This position serves as a technical advisor to bureau staff, other agencies, and the public; and coordinates statewide regulatory activities related to the licensing, credentialing, and re-inspection fee programs in the Bureau of Weights and Measures (WM). The position also serves as the bureau’s coordinator for the WM and petroleum technician certification and training programs. Responsibilities include coordinating enforcement issues, developing work plans and compliance strategies for bureau staff, monitoring and analyzing re-inspection data, responding to inquiries from other WM staff, industry representatives and the public, and providing technical guidance and training for field inspection, compliance, and program support staff.

The classification of this position is Regulatory Specialist, which is in schedule-range 07-04 with a starting pay between $29.00 and $33.00 per hour.
This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire.

These OJT opportunities and transferable skills include direct experience and practice through collaboration with co-workers/supervisor, peer mentoring, and job-specific training modules.
Conditions Of Employment
DATCP does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the selected applicant being able to provide documentation of eligibility to work in the United States.
A criminal background check will be performed on the selected applicant prior to an offer of employment.

- Experience with developing and/or delivering training (experience planning training events, developing, and delivering presentations, producing training materials, etc.)
- Experience in conflict resolution, de-escalation, or managing hostile or resistant individuals in a public-facing environment (Hostile or resistant behavior includes verbal aggression, refusal to comply with directives or legal requirements, challenging authority, rules, or policies, attempting to obstruct enforcement or services, etc.)
- Experience communicating technical information to external and internal stakeholders (FAQ’s, website content, presentation materials, etc.)
- Experience with computer programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite or similar (work, excel, outlook, teams, zoom, SharePoint, adobe pro, etc.)
- Experience with investigations (coordinating investigations and investigatory resources, compiling and reviewing reports for accuracy, identifying violations of law, making enforcement recommendations, etc.)
- Experience with code compliance (establishing short and long term regulation and compliance goals, experience with Federal or State statutes, administrative codes and standards, etc.)
- Experience in information and data management, including using database applications such as Win Wam and/or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and proficiency working with Microsoft Excel
