The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Project Development Supervisor (Civil Engineer Transportation Supervisor) position in the North Central Region!

This position offers a hybridized work schedule. This full-time position will be headquartered at and required to work from the DTSD North Central Region office in Wisconsin Rapids, WI at least two days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the state of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

This is a Project Development Supervisor position in the North Central Region (NCR), Project Development Section (PDS) working under the general supervision of the PDS Chief. This position is responsible for the delivery, and oversight, of transportation improvement projects in the design and construction phases. This position performs administrative and supervisory functions in the field of engineering and is responsible for the supervision of professional and technical staff that provide support for engineering related functions.

This position’s primary role is to achieve program objectives by interpreting and applying policy within the area of project development and directly supervising a staff of professional engineering and technical positions. This includes coordinating staff and resources to meet program objectives; providing training and developmental opportunities to staff; applying technical expertise in decision-making; developing and implementing policy; performing professional engineering work; applying professional engineering expertise in decision-making; and prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work to meet project requirements and deadlines. Additionally, this position requires effective communication with internal and external partners, other agencies, consultants, and contractors.

This position requires extensive professional experience in civil engineering and a comprehensive understanding of technical manuals, specifications, and policies. This position reviews, analyzes, and approves engineering reports, documents, and plans. The professional engineering analysis, review, and decisions made by this position directly relates to the safety and operation of the transportation system, thus has a high level of risk and accountability.

Salary Information

This position is in schedule-range 81-30 with an annual salary of $112,320-$124,488, plus excellent benefits. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License.

A twelve-month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This position requires the ability to travel independently to supervise staff in other regional offices, conduct field site visits, and attend training and statewide meetings.

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. WisDOT is not enrolled in USCIS E-Verify and is not eligible to employ international F-1 students seeking STEM-OPT extension. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Minimum requirement - A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if the PE registration is from another state.

In addition to the minimum requirement, qualified applicants will have experience in transportation program or project management.
