Introduction

In partnership with individuals and organizations; DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) Park Technician-Advanced to perform work on our Red Cedar State Trail. This position will be stationed in Menomonie, WI. The position will perform work in and around Menomonie, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, and Elk Mound.

Position Summary

These positions perform a combination of general maintenance and repair work of a semi-skilled nature to various building types and equipment, including but not limited to park buildings, electrical, plumbing, power tools and vehicles. Work at this level is more complex in nature than the entry level position and this position may occasionally direct and coordinate the work of other facilities repair workers, inmates, students or Limited Term Employees on projects, but is not considered a lead worker. In addition, this position may perform limited trades work below the journeyman level.

50% - Perform facility improvement projects by repairing windows, doors, screens, and walls. Perform minor repairs to water, electrical and heating systems. Perform carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical and plumbing tasks below the Journeyman level.

20% - Mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches. Haul garbage. Paint buildings, grills and picnic tables. Maintain restrooms, campfire rings and picnic grills. Remove trees and brush.

15% - Operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as tractors, snow removal equipment, dozers, trenchers, sprayers, mowers, etc. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair to mechanical systems (i.e., air handling systems, chillers, air compressors and pumps).

15% - Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop and maintain culverts and shoulders.

Salary Information

This position pays $18.00 per hour and is in the Facilities Repair Worker Adv classification in pay schedule and range 03-13. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.

4) Allow individuals to hold multiple LTE appointments concurrently. If both LTE positions are at the same agency, the positions must be bona fide different positions. Each individual LTE position allows for maximum of 1039 hours in a twelve-month period.

Special Requirements:

1) Residency: To be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

A Wisconsin resident is a person who:

a. Has established a residence, as defined in s. 6.10(1), in this state not less than 10 days earlier;

b. Has resided in this state for not less than a total of one year out of the immediately preceding 5 years;

c. Is eligible to register to vote in this state; or

d. Is the spouse of a person meeting the requirements of par. (a), (b), or (c)." s.230.03(12), Wis. Stats.

2) Background Checks: The Department of Natural Resources conducts criminal background checks on final applicants prior to a job offer. Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications below, the selected candidate must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a minimum of two years licensed driving experience
  • Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
  • Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year
Minimum qualifications:
  • Knowledge, skills and experience with general maintenance operations
  • Building and/or facility repair or maintenance experience
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
  • Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Knowledge, skills and experience with basic carpentry and minor electrical and plumbing repairs
  • Knowledge and experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment such as tractors, dozers, trenchers, sprayers, mowers, etc
