Introduction

Use your customer service skills and expertise to answer inquires, research solutions, process customer applications, and communicate important and up-to-date information and help test and modernize DMV IT systems with the Wisconsin DMV as a DMV Customer Service Representative!

These positions offers a hybridized work schedule. The positions will be headquartered at and required to work from the Hill Farms State Office Building in Madison, WI at least 4 days per week, typically Monday through Thursday . All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

The Customer Service & Processing positions are responsible for providing information to the general public, law enforcement, courts, and others regarding driver licensing and vehicle registration. These positions are specialized in a section of driver licensing or vehicle registration, and often provide consultation to the DMV Service Centers. While there is some face-to-face customer service with internal business partners, most of this work is more back office and have a large of amount of data entry, as well as contact with internal and external customers via phone and email. On a daily basis these positions perform a multitude of tasks, such as processing mailed-in applications, issuing products, producing records, and conducting complex research of state laws and transportation codes. This work also involves the application of state statutes, administrative rules, and departmental policies and procedures to licensing and/or vehicle registration and identification.

Additionally, these positions will participate in IT system testing. DMV is undergoing a massive IT System Transformation and is looking for testers to participate on a broadscale testing project lasting multiple years with an initial system rollout anticipated in early September 2027. These positions will work with industry leaders on DMV modernization and testing systems from development through implementation.

Salary Information

These positions are in schedule-range (02-11) with a starting pay rate of $22.76/hr, with a $1.40/hr. increase after one year of satisfactory performance. Reclass to the Advanced level is typically after 12 months of service, and receives at least $26.61/hr. Saturday hours may occasionally be required. An additional $0.80/hr will be awarded for all Saturday hours. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Job Details

This state agency does not sponsor work visas. This state agency is not enrolled in USCIS E-Verify and is not eligible to employ international F-1 students seeking STEM-OPT extension. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Prior to any appointments for position(s) filled from this announcement, candidates may be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check which may include FBI fingerprinting.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants will have all the following:
  • Experience providing customer service.
  • Experience researching and resolving customer issues or concerns.
  • Experience working with computer programs, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word or Excel.
In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:
  • Experience in a high-volume customer service contact center contacting customers via phone, email, or chat.
  • Experience interpreting and explaining complex information, such as laws and statutes.
  • Experience performing work that requires multitasking.
  • Experience working as a member of a team to achieve a singular goal.
  • Experience testing for IT system upgrades or changes.
